The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the resignation of Denys Shmyhal from the position of defense minister. 265 people's deputies voted in favor of the respective decision.

Before the vote, Shmyhal reported to parliamentarians about the results of his work in the position. In particular, he reported on achievements in the defense sector: increasing the share of Ukrainian weapons at the front and introducing a special legal regime of Defense City.

Personnel Changes

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed that Shmyhal head the Ministry of Energy. The head of state explained the personnel changes by the need to achieve "maximum technological capability" of the army in case of diplomatic efforts' failure.

Deputies' Reaction

Representatives from different factions assessed the dismissal decision differently. In particular, people's deputy Solomiia Bobrovska from the "Holos" faction called Shmyhal's work "colossal" and believed he should have continued in his position.

Previously, Denys Shmyhal held the position of Prime Minister of Ukraine, and on July 17, 2025, he was appointed as the minister of defense.
