A level I danger storm warning has been declared in Odesa and Odesa region due to a sharp deterioration in weather conditions. Meteorologists forecast rain with wet snow, strong winds and fog that may complicate transportation.

What Awaits Odesa Residents in the Coming Days

According to the Hydrometeorological Center of the Black and Azov Seas, the weather deterioration is caused by the arrival of the extensive Scandinavian anticyclone Hella. Significant cooling is forecast along the sea coast.

Air temperature in the city will gradually decrease. Currently, Odesa expects around 0°, while the region will see from 4° below zero to 1° above zero. On the night of December 25, the temperature may drop to 4-6° below zero, and during the day it will range from 0° to 2° below zero.

Dangerous Weather Phenomena

Meteorologists warn about several dangerous factors:

  • Strong wind: On December 24, northeast wind with speeds of 12-17 m/s is expected, and on December 26 — northwest wind up to 15-18 m/s
  • Mixed precipitation: light mixed-phase precipitation is possible in places — rain with wet snow
  • Fog: fog is expected during night and morning hours, which may hinder visibility on roads
  • Sea waves: significant sea waves along the coast of Odesa region

Warning for Drivers

On regional highways, visibility during snow will be only 1-2 km in places. Meanwhile, December 25 is expected to bring positive news for motorists — visibility on regional roads will remain good, as no significant precipitation is forecast during the day.

Odesa city hall assured that municipal services are ready for deteriorating weather conditions. Relevant services are on high alert for rapid response to possible complications.
