On the night of today, February 16, 2026, powerful explosions were heard in Kyiv and its outskirts due to a missile attack from the Russian Federation. According to monitoring channels, the danger arose from the launch of "Zircon" type missiles from the territory of temporarily occupied Crimea.

Reports indicate that the explosions were felt on both banks of the capital, and their sound may have been amplified by the high humidity in the air. The Kyiv region was hit, where there are reports of active operation of air defense in the area of Nalyvaikyivka, near Makariv.

Monitors draw attention to the fact that there is an important power substation "Kyivska" 750 kV in Nalyvaikyivka, which is connected to the energy system of Ukraine, including the Rivne nuclear power plant. The shelling may also have aimed at this infrastructure.

When the first missile was launched, there was active monitoring of aerial targets, and later a second missile of this type was launched into the air. Information about the consequences of the attack and the response of Ukraine's armed forces to this incident still requires confirmation.

Residents of the capital region are urged not to ignore air raid signals and to follow instructions, staying in safe places until official messages about the situation are received.

It is worth recalling that earlier in Ukraine, the threat posed by new Russian weapons, including the "Zircon" missile, and its potential impact on the state's security had already been discussed.
