President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed Kostyantyn Humenyuk as the new Commander of the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The relevant decree No. 910/2026 was signed by the head of state on September 14, 2026. The document states: “To appoint Kostyantyn Vitaliyovych Humenyuk as Commander of the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”
Previously, by Decree No. 909/2026, Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed Anatoliy Kazmirchuk from the position of Commander of the Medical Forces.
What is known about Kostyantyn Humenyuk
Kostyantyn Humenyuk is a colonel of the Medical Service, military surgeon and Doctor of Medical Sciences. Before his appointment, he served as the Chief Surgeon of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The military doctor has extensive experience working in combat zones. In 2014, he served as part of a medical team of the 95th Air Assault Brigade. In 2015, he became a leading surgeon at the 59th Military Mobile Hospital, and in 2017 he was appointed Chief Surgeon of the Anti-Terrorist Operation. In 2018–2019, he headed the surgical division of the Joint Forces Operation.
Humenyuk specializes in treating combat-related injuries. In 2022, while working at a frontline mobile hospital, he performed a complex laparoscopic operation on a wounded serviceman. He has also been involved in introducing modern methods of surgical care directly in combat conditions.
The new Commander of the Medical Forces is a Honored Doctor of Ukraine, a laureate of the Borys Paton National Prize of Ukraine and a recipient of the Order of Merit, 3rd Class.
According to Pavlo Palisa, Deputy Head of the Office of the President, Zelenskyy made the decision to appoint Humenyuk together with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He also noted that the new commander has authority among military personnel and the trust of the volunteer community.
