Odesa and the region are expected to experience a sharp deterioration in weather conditions due to the approach of the powerful Scandinavian anticyclone "Nella". Weather forecasters warn of snowfalls, strong winds, and significant cooling down to -7°C.
Storm warning announced in the region
For December 24, Level I danger has been declared in Odesa region due to expected wind gusts up to 12-17 m/s and significant sea roughness. The Hydrometeorological Center of the Black and Azov Seas reports a "yellow" danger level along the entire coastline.
On December 26, the situation will worsen further — northwesterly wind gusts up to 15-18 m/s are expected, moderate precipitation mainly in the form of snow, with local blizzards.
Temperature readings and precipitation
In the coming days, the temperature background will have a steady downward trend:
- December 24: daytime temperature +4...+6°C
- December 26: nighttime from -5°C to -7°C, daytime from -3°C to +2°C
- Throughout the region: nighttime -4...-9°C, daytime -3...+2°C
Light mixed precipitation is expected in places — rain with wet snow. Fog is possible during nighttime and morning hours, which will complicate visibility on roads to 500-1000 meters.
Warning for drivers and residents
City authorities remind of the need for caution when moving around. Drivers are advised not to leave vehicles under trees, power lines, and on storm drain grates due to the risk of branches falling from strong winds.
Odesa's utility services assure their readiness for worsening weather conditions and prompt response to possible emergency situations.
Special danger on the coast
Weather forecasters pay special attention to the danger of staying in the beach area. Due to the storm, mine danger significantly increases — there is a high probability of sea mines breaking loose from anchors and washing ashore. If suspicious objects are detected, it is necessary to immediately report by calling 102.
Sea water temperature will be 6-7°C, significant roughness is expected due to strengthening winds.
