The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is conducting an inquiry in connection with the spread on the internet of intimate photos of the chairman of the “Center of Anti-Corruption” Vitaliy Shabunin. According to the bureau, the images were obtained from the activist’s phone, which was seized by law enforcement during a search.

The SBI's investigation is aimed at identifying the guilty parties among the employees who had access to the seized evidence. If involvement in the leak is confirmed, the bureau promises to take strict measures and hold those responsible accountable.

Comments from Event Participants

Olena Shabunina, Vitaliy’s wife, expressed her outrage, stating that these photos were intended for her only. "Intimacy is meant for two," she emphasized in her Facebook post.

Vitaliy Shabunin accused the SBI and the Prosecutor General’s Office employees of deliberately leaking the photos to Telegram channels. He believes this was a response to the "Center of Anti-Corruption’s" criticism of law enforcement agencies' work.

Background and Consequences

The search and seizure of Vitaliy Shabunin's phone took place on July 11, when he was accused of avoiding military service and fraud. It was noted that the activist did not report to his service post, staying in civilian institutions under the guise of business trips.

The SBI launched an investigation, and if the charges are confirmed, those guilty of violating the procedure for handling evidence will be held accountable, including for criminal negligence.

Currently, it remains an open question what specific measures the bureau plans to apply. The results of the investigation are expected to be announced soon.
