On Thursday, December 26, Kyiv will temporarily lower Ukraine's largest state flag due to forecasted deteriorating weather conditions. The decision was made by the Kyiv City State Administration to preserve the flag from damage.
According to weather forecasters, the capital is expected to experience wind gusts of 15-20 m/s, which corresponds to the first level of danger (yellow). Due to such weather conditions, the flag will be temporarily removed until the weather stabilizes.
Ukraine's highest flagpole
The state flag is installed on the territory of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War on the Pechersk Hills. The flagpole is the highest in Ukraine — its height is 90 meters, the total weight of the structure is 32 tons, and the flag dimensions are 16 by 24 meters.
Storm warning across Ukraine
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center warn of sharp deterioration in weather conditions across the country on December 26. Except for Zakarpattia, the first level of danger (yellow) has been declared in all regions.
Not only strong wind gusts are expected, but also blizzards, and icy roads. Such weather may complicate the work of energy, construction and utility companies, as well as transportation.
Meanwhile, forecasters predict warming on Friday, but blizzards and icy roads will persist.
