A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued in Chicago, as hazardous conditions may arise on the roads due to expected snowfalls on Saturday evening and Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, snow may begin to fall in the Chicago area between 9 PM and midnight, with precipitation expected to taper off between 7 AM and 9 AM on Sunday. It is anticipated that 5 to 8 cm of snow will accumulate in most areas overnight, with some locations north of Interstate 80 potentially receiving even more—up to 10 cm.
ABC7 Chicago meteorologist Jaysole Martinez warns that roads may become dangerous and urges drivers to reduce speed and exercise caution while traveling. A drop in temperatures is also expected over the weekend, while the lake effect may further intensify the snowfall.
How to Prepare for a Snowstorm
- Check the road conditions before heading out.
- Keep warm clothing and survival supplies in your vehicle.
- Stay updated with the latest news and weather forecasts.
Additionally, due to the active climate pattern of La Niña, new snowstorms are also forecasted for next week, which could impact the Midwest and Northeast U.S. Snowfall may continue from Tuesday to Thursday, bringing even more snow and worsening road conditions in cities like Minneapolis, Chicago, and Buffalo.
Emergency services urge citizens to exercise caution on the roads as conditions may deteriorate.
