Today near the city of Korosten, located in the Zhytomyr region, a freight train derailed. As a result of the accident, the train driver and his assistant were injured and hospitalized. Among the passengers of the emergency-stopped passenger train No. 45/46 Kharkiv–Uzhgorod, there are no serious injuries, although one passenger sustained cuts from glass.

"Ukrzaliznytsia" reported that due to this incident, the movement of passenger trains experienced significant changes. The Kharkiv–Uzhgorod train was redirected to a neighboring station and is now following an alternate route, which will result in significant delays. Some routes are currently bypassing Korosten through the Shepetivka, Kazatin, and Fastiv stations, causing expected delays of up to three hours.

Through Fastiv station now pass:

  • No. 1/123 Kharkiv – Ivano-Frankivsk, Vorokhta;
  • No. 44/50 Ivano-Frankivsk – Cherkasy;
  • No. 92 Lviv – Kyiv;
  • No. 30 Uzhgorod – Kyiv;
  • No. 8/150 Chernivtsi – Kyiv;
  • No. 52 Przemyśl – Kyiv;
  • No. 68/20 Warsaw, Chelm – Kyiv;
  • No. 108 Solotvyno – Kyiv.

Separately, "Ukrzaliznytsia" noted that train No. 98 Kovel – Kyiv, as an exception, will be routed through Zhytomyr to minimize delays. A transfer to a suburban shuttle in the direction of Korosten has been organized at the Shepetivka station to help passengers reach their travel destination.

Currently, specialists are working on quickly restoring movement on the damaged section and speeding up trains that are temporarily following the detour route. The city of Korosten, known for its significance to railway infrastructure, is currently facing a major challenge related to this accident.
