On December 7, 2025, Russian troops struck the Pechenizka Dam in the Kharkiv region, causing concern among local residents and military personnel. Reports indicate that the consequences of the attack were serious but did not lead to critical issues in the logistics of Ukrainian units.

According to information from the 16th Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russians have repeatedly attacked this strategically important infrastructure, using various types of weapons, including drones and aerial bombs. “The enemy attempted to hit it with Iranian ‘Shaheeds’, KAB aerial bombs, missiles of various types, ‘Molniya’ missiles, and FPV drones,” Ukrainian military personnel reported.

Despite numerous attacks, the Ukrainian command prepared for possible damage to the dam by developing alternative routes for the supply of material resources. Ukrainian units have also stockpiled the necessary supplies, which allows them to maintain combat capability even if access to the dam is lost.

Official Reaction

The military emphasized that “attempts to destroy the dam have no military justification” and classified the actions of the Russian army as “a war crime”, violating international laws. The 16th Army Corps stressed that strikes against the dam are indiscriminate and pose a threat to the civilian population, which is a gross violation of Article 52 of Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions.

As of 12:00 on December 7, traffic on the roadway in the area of the Pechenizka Dam has been suspended. Authorities urge local residents to remain calm and monitor further updates.

Additionally, the infrastructure restoration and development service in the Kharkiv region noted the necessity to halt traffic on two highways due to dangerous damage caused by shelling.
