Large-Scale Technical Failure Paralyzed Metro Operations
On January 31st in Kyiv, a temporary suspension of metro train movement occurred due to a systemic failure in Ukraine's energy system. According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, rescuers evacuated almost 500 people from train cars during the forced stoppage.
Details of the Emergency Stoppage
According to official data, one train stopped 100 meters from the "Vokzalna" station, and another was 1 kilometer from the "Vydubychi" station. Emergency service specialists, together with law enforcement, ensured the safe evacuation of passengers.
Reason for the Stoppage
The technological disruption occurred due to simultaneous disconnection of power lines between the energy systems of Romania, Moldova, and different parts of Ukraine. This was reported by the First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Denys Shmyhal.
The Kyiv Metro subsequently resumed operations on all three lines.
