The first foldable smartphone from Apple, referred to in sources as the iPhone Fold, may significantly compete with other models not only due to its technological features but also due to the proportions of its body.
Drawings and renders show that Apple has chosen a form factor closer to a compact tablet than to traditional foldable phones from Samsung or Chinese brands.

On the iphone-ticker website, images of the device with detailed information have been released: dimensions of 83.8 × 120.6 × 9.6 mm when folded. In the unfolded state, the diagonal of the internal display is 139.4 mm (7.76 inches). The body shows part of the hinge, which protrudes approximately 1.8 mm, likely related to the complex bending mechanism.

Unusual proportions instead of a "square"
Compared to many foldable smartphones that have almost a square shape when unfolded, the iPhone Fold appears more elongated. For example, if two traditional iPhones are placed next to each other, they create a plane close to a square. In contrast, the Fold when opened resembles a compact tablet with proportions similar to the iPad mini.
The user gets a 7.76-inch display, which is slightly smaller than the 8.3-inch screen of the iPad mini. This choice of format may indicate Apple's desire not only for a multi-window mode but also for easy content consumption and interaction with interfaces resembling iPadOS but adapted to iOS.
Thickness and design compromises
When folded, the thickness of the iPhone Fold is 9.6 mm, and when unfolded, it's about 4.8 mm, excluding the camera bump. By comparison, the ultra-thin iPhone Air has a thickness of 5.64 mm, so to achieve such measurements in the Fold, Apple will need to significantly reorganize the internal components.

Displays and materials
Earlier, The Information reported that the smartphone will feature a 7.7-inch internal display and a 5.3-inch external display, which aligns with the published drawings. According to their information, the display module is a complex multi-layer construction made from "special glass and materials," developed in cooperation with Corning and SCHOTT — companies with extensive experience in protective and ultra-thin glass.
Possible features and launch date
According to information from Wccftech and previous leaks, the iPhone Fold may have:
- an internal display with a resolution of 2713 × 1920 pixels without notches;
- Touch ID instead of Face ID;
- A20 Pro processor;
- 12 GB of RAM;
- Apple's own C2 5G modem;
- a battery with a capacity of 5400–5800 mAh;
- a dual main camera with two 48 MP sensors;
- a 24 MP front camera.
The device is expected to appear in the second half of 2026, support only eSIM, and cost between $2399 and $2499.
Thus, if the leaks are confirmed, Apple will create not just a foldable iPhone, but a new class of device between a smartphone and a tablet, with unique proportions and compromises that significantly distinguish it from existing foldable solutions on the market.
