Internal Apple documents have revealed mentions of an unannounced MacBook undergoing testing with the A15 Bionic mobile processor. This information is contained in files from the kernel debug kit - a debugging set used by engineers during the development of new devices.
These files were briefly available on Apple’s official website earlier this year but were quickly removed after the first reports of the leak. Nevertheless, some of the information reached analysts and specialized media.

What has been found in the documents
In the records related to macOS devices, there is a line that directly indicates an unreleased MacBook configuration with the A15 chip. It is designated mac14p and has a hardware platform of H14P. According to MacRumors, this model corresponds to the internal code name J267.
Also within the same dataset, another entry was found — a MacBook with an A18 Pro processor. This variant has the identifier J700 and uses the Sunrise wireless subsystem associated with MediaTek. Unlike the A15 configuration, the model with A18 Pro appears more polished — with clear indications of subsystems and an internal code name characteristic of a nearly finished product.
Should we expect a MacBook with A15
Analysts unanimously agree that the release of a MacBook based on the A15 Bionic looks unlikely. The processor was introduced back in 2021, and using such a chip in a new computer in 2026 does not align with Apple’s current product strategy.
In contrast, the version with A18 Pro is significantly more aligned with the overall performance level of modern MacBooks, especially considering that all consumer Macs on Apple Silicon today use M-series chips. It is worth noting that Apple has previously used mobile chips in transitional solutions — for example, the first Developer Transition Kit based on Mac mini ran on A12Z, although commercial models later received M-series processors.
What is known about the budget MacBook
Previous leaks indicate that Apple is preparing an affordable MacBook with a 13-inch display, which could appear as early as next year. The model is expected to be available in several colors, such as silver, blue, pink, and yellow, hinting at a focus on a broader audience and the student segment.
Thus, the mentions of A15 in Apple’s internal files suggest early test configurations or engineering experiments, while the final version of the budget MacBook is likely to feature a much more modern chip — or remain within the M series lineup.
