Ukraine Will Be Covered by Arctic Cold During the Holidays

Ukrainians can expect a truly frosty Christmas, as Arctic cold with temperatures down to -12°C will sweep into the country on December 24-25. This was reported by forecasters from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center and weather experts.

Weather in Kyiv on Christmas Eve and Christmas

The capital is expected to have particularly cold weather:

  • December 24 (Christmas Eve): light snow in places at night, no precipitation during the day. Temperature at night 8-10° below zero, during the day 4-6° below zero
  • December 25 (Christmas): no precipitation. Temperature 8-10° below zero at night, 2-4° below zero during the day

Wind during these days will be mainly northeast and northwest, 5-10 m/s.

Weather Conditions Across Ukraine

According to forecaster Natalia Didenko's predictions, fresh air mass of Arctic origin will bring significant cooling across the entire territory of Ukraine. At night, -5-12°C is expected, during the day -2-7°C.

The coldest regions will be the north and east of the country, where temperatures may drop to -12°C. It will be relatively warmer only in Transcarpathia and the extreme south of the country - from +2°C to -6°C at night and 0-3°C above zero during the day.

Precipitation and Road Conditions

No precipitation is expected in most regions, except:

  • December 24 in the Carpathians and Precarpathian region - moderate snow
  • In western and northern regions at night - light snow in places
  • Ice is expected on roads in places

Weather Changes After the Holidays

Forecasters predict that starting December 26, the synoptic picture will begin to change toward warming. From this day, the return of snow precipitation is expected in most regions of Ukraine, especially in the east and southeast of the country, where moderate snow and local blizzards are possible.

Drivers and pedestrians are advised to be especially careful due to ice on roads and sharp cooling.
