Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has officially appointed the well-known Canadian politician of Ukrainian origin, Chrystia Freeland, as an external advisor on economic development.

On Monday, January 5th, Zelenskyy published the corresponding decree and commented on his decision on social media. "Chrystia professionally masters economic development issues and has significant experience in attracting investments and conducting economic transformations," the president emphasized.
About Chrystia Freeland
57-year-old Freeland has extensive experience working in the Canadian government. From 2015 to 2025, she has held several high-ranking positions, including Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Finance, and Deputy Prime Minister under Justin Trudeau.
Before her political career, Freeland worked as a journalist for leading international publications, including "Financial Times", "The Washington Post", and "The Economist". She is the author of several books about economics.
Purpose of the Appointment
According to Zelenskyy, the appointment is aimed at strengthening Ukraine's internal economic resilience "for the sake of country recovery and defense capability enhancement".
