On Christmas and New Year, mild weather is expected in Ukraine, generally warm by typical December standards. Vira Balabukh, head of the Department of Applied Meteorology and Climatology at the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Institute, noted that if current forecasts hold, temperatures will remain 1-2 degrees above normal.
According to the forecaster, from December 22 to 28, some decrease in temperature should be expected, but it will still remain quite warm. "For two decades in a row, we have been observing very warm conditions. It feels like November has lasted more than a month," Balabukh said in a comment to UNIAN.
Pre-holiday week
During the holiday week, forecasts suggest that air temperatures will be somewhat lower, but this will not spoil the festive mood. "If anomalies currently are 2-4 degrees above normal, they will decrease further, but temperatures will remain higher," Balabukh noted.
Weather conditions are expected to be stable even after December 28: significant changes are not forecasted. In particular, meteorologists warn that during the holiday period, temperatures will still be above average levels.
Winter forecast
It’s worth reminding that according to previous forecasts, December of this year will be warmer than normal, and during the first decades of January and February, a temperature increase of 1.5-2 degrees is also expected. Such weather anomalies could affect the traditional holiday customs of Ukrainians, who are accustomed to a colder winter period.
Forecasters also noted that there could be short-term periods of cooling, but overall the weather promises to be mild and comfortable for the holidays.
