The US Navy has seized another tanker from the "Russian shadow fleet" that was attempting to transport oil contrary to international sanctions.
Detention Details
The tanker Olina, which previously sailed under the flag of East Timor, was intercepted in the Caribbean basin. According to the Main Intelligence Directorate, the vessel was involved in exporting Russian oil and petroleum products from ports in the Baltic and Black Seas.
Sanctions History
The international environmental organization "Greenpeace" classifies Olina as part of the so-called "shadow fleet" that transports Russian oil in violation of international restrictions. Specifically, sanctions against the tanker were imposed by:
- United Kingdom - December 17, 2024
- United States - January 10, 2025
- Canada - February 21, 2025
The main destinations for Russian oil deliveries were China, India, and Turkey.

The Ukrainian Embassy in the US is currently determining whether any Ukrainian citizens were on board the detained tanker.
