The Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenko, reported that after the completion of the war in Ukraine, there will be about 5-6 million veterans and their family members. She announced this information during a meeting with representatives of the Coalition of veteran public organizations.

"Ukraine is the first country to build a comprehensive veteran policy during the war, rather than after its conclusion. This requires decisions based on the real experiences of our defenders and their families," Svyrydenko noted in her post on Telegram.

Veteran Policy Priorities

During the meeting, the Coalition participants presented updated concepts of state policy aimed at supporting veterans. Yulia Svyrydenko emphasized the need to integrate veteran policy into all spheres of life, including healthcare, education, and employment.

She also underscored the importance of social support for veterans so that each of them and their families feel protected and have access to necessary services. "Our goal is for every veteran, every veteran woman, and their families to feel effective support from the state," she added.

Next Steps

Svyrydenko noted that after the preliminary meeting in August 2023, the government took into account many proposals that will be included in the draft Veteran Code, which will soon be presented for consideration to the Verkhovna Rada.

At the end of the meeting, plans were announced to hold discussions with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Economy regarding improving conditions for veterans, as well as about special initiatives, including access to training in barrier-free driving schools for veterans with disabilities.
