During the latest session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, which took place on December 16, a conflict occurred between the members of parliament. Mariyana Bezuгla, a representative of the Servant of the People faction, blocked the podium, demanding the resignation of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskiy. This sparked a wave of indignation among her fellow deputies.
Before the session began, Bezuгla wrapped the podium with red ribbons and set up placards with her demands. She emphasized the necessity of undertaking military reform and changing the defense system of Ukraine. She stated that she would block the work of the parliament until her demands were met.
Conflict Between the Deputies
The situation escalated when MP Serhiy Taruta, attempting to unblock the podium, began tearing down the placards simultaneously with Bezuгla, which led to a physical confrontation. Other deputies, including Oleksiy Honcharenko, who filmed the incident, witnessed the events.
The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, called on Bezuгla to leave the podium and allow other deputies to speak. However, Bezuгla rejected any proposals and continued her blockade, forcing the Speaker to announce a break in the session.
Break and Continuation of the Session
After a short break, the deputies decided to continue the discussion, but without speeches from the podium. Bezuгla's actions caused a wide resonance in society and among the media, as there were questions not only about the incident itself but also regarding the appropriateness of her demands and the possible consequences for the political situation in Ukraine.
It should be noted that earlier, Bezuгla had expressed criticism towards the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, claiming that the Ukrainian military had achieved success "not because of, but in spite of" the leadership.
