The government of Ukraine has adopted an important resolution that grants official rights to local authorities and communal enterprises to support mobile communication during power outages. This was reported by the First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov on his Telegram channel.
According to the new mechanism, communities can cooperate with mobile operators to ensure the stable operation of base stations. Mykhailo Fedorov noted that during large outages, operators need to service about 35,000 base stations across the country. Now, communities have the opportunity to connect mobile networks to the free capacities of their communal generators, indicating the government's readiness to respond to the challenges of wartime.
Three options for network support
The new resolution offers three models through which communities can interact with operators:
- Powering base stations from their own communal generators.
- Providing personnel to refuel and start mobile operators' generators if businesses lack their own crews.
- Permits for placing operators' generators on communal facilities without unnecessary bureaucracy.
Fedorov emphasized that communities will receive compensation for fuel costs, repairs, and maintenance, while mobile operators will receive additional logistical support.
It should be noted that the new services for network support do not constitute the sale of electricity, but rather services that do not require additional licenses. Fuel for powering base stations can be utilized from the material reserves of communities.
The state continues its efforts to ensure connectivity in Ukraine even under the most challenging conditions, Mykhailo Fedorov stated, confirming the importance of technology in the everyday lives of Ukrainians.
