The media revealed the name and details of the Russian embassy employee expelled by Germany, who is suspected of espionage. This diplomat, believed to be the curator of the detained Ukrainian, also has ties to Russian intelligence.
Source: The information was made public in a study by The Insider and Der Spiegel, as reported by "European Truth".
Details: According to journalists, the expelled diplomat is Colonel GRU Andrey Mayorov, who held the position of Deputy Military Attaché of Russia in Germany.
Mayorov is considered the contact person and curator of Ilona Kopylova-Weiner, who was detained on suspicion of espionage. She holds citizenship of Ukraine, Germany, and Russia.
According to information from The Insider, Mayorov began his career as a paratrooper in Pskov and then served in the 162nd Center for Military-Technical Information of the GRU.
Ilona Kopylova, 56, originally from Dnipro, has been living in Germany for a long time. The woman was the head of the consulting company Wiener&Partner and often met with German businessmen and politicians, including participating in events involving high-ranking officials, notably appearing at a meeting between Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Volodymyr Zelensky.
Kopylova-Weiner gathered information that could be useful for Russia and regularly passed it on to Russian intelligence. Investigators believe she may have accompanied her curator Mayorov to some meetings using fake documents.
It turned out that Kopylova-Weiner met with Walter Storz, the former head of the 61st Testing Center of the German Air Force, and Uwe V., a retired officer who served at the airbase in Büchel, where American nuclear weapons are stored. It is currently unknown whether she managed to obtain valuable information through these connections. Storz was a patron of the non-governmental organization led by Kopylova-Weiner, and she used this acquaintance to gain access to events related to the European defense industry.
After Kopylova-Weiner's exposure, searches were conducted on both of them, during which electronic devices were seized, but they were not detained.
Recall that earlier this week, a woman with citizenship of Ukraine and Germany was reported detained in Germany on suspicion of espionage.
Following this, Germany expelled a Russian embassy employee due to espionage allegations. The Russian embassy called these accusations "a provocation."
