The head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, stated that Kyiv has no intention of giving up the territories seized by Russia in eastern Ukraine. In his interview with "The Atlantic," Yermak emphasized that this is prohibited by the country's Constitution.
When asked about the possibility of signing a document that could indicate a renunciation of Ukrainian territories, Yermak categorically replied, “No sane man will sign a document renouncing territory.” He added that while Volodymyr Zelensky remains president, no one should expect changes in this position.
The line of demarcation as the only topic for discussion
Yermak also noted that within the framework of peace negotiations, Kyiv is only willing to discuss the definition of the line that separates the territories controlled by the warring parties. “All we can realistically talk about right now is defining the frontline. And that is what we need to do,” he stated in his remarks.
He pointed out that Ukraine's position in the upcoming negotiations will significantly complicate the possibilities for reaching a compromise with Moscow, which has yet to show any willingness to abandon its demands.
Continuation of negotiations with the USA
At the time Yermak made these statements, it became known that the delegations of the USA and Ukraine would continue discussions on the peace plan initiated by the administration of Donald Trump next weekend. He confirmed that Zelensky plans to meet with Trump soon to discuss further steps.
It is worth recalling that earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated his demands for the return of Ukrainian territories, emphasizing that the war will only end after the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces.
