On the Bila Tserkva-Fastiv highway, a fatal accident occurred, resulting in the death of a 34-year-old pedestrian. The driver of the Mitsubishi Pajero, a 63-year-old man, ran over the victim, who was on the roadway. The incident happened while he was traveling towards Fastiv.

Emergency medical personnel quickly transported the victim to the hospital; however, unfortunately, the doctors were unable to save the man — he died from his injuries.

The Kyiv region police have launched a pre-trial investigation into the violation of traffic safety rules that led to the victim's death. It is known that the investigation is ongoing within the framework of a criminal proceeding under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Causes of the Accident and Infrastructure Issues

The R-19 highway is a high-speed route between populated areas, and drivers often exceed the speed limit. In this section of the road, pedestrians frequently have no place to cross due to the lack of pedestrian crossings and inadequate lighting at night.

Investigators are determining the circumstances of the tragedy, including why the victim was on the roadway and whether he had reflective elements. Law enforcement also reminds about the importance of following traffic rules by both drivers and pedestrians.

Recommendations for Drivers and Pedestrians

  • For drivers: reduce speed at night and carefully monitor the shoulders of the road.
  • For pedestrians: avoid stepping onto the highway without urgent need, and use reflective elements.

This tragedy has become another signal of the need to improve infrastructure in dangerous areas of roads to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
