In Moscow, on Volokolamsk Highway, an assassination attempt was made on Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseev, the first deputy head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of Russia, on February 6, 2026. According to preliminary data, an unknown assailant fired several shots, hitting the military officer in the back, before fleeing the scene.

Vladimir Alekseev, 64 years old, was urgently hospitalized in one of Moscow's hospitals. His health condition remains unclear, but sources close to the security services report that the general's condition is serious.

Details of the Attack

According to information provided by the Investigative Committee of Russia, the attack took place in the residential building where Alekseev lives. Eyewitnesses confirm that the attacker may have been a woman waiting for him in the entrance.

In connection with this incident, a criminal case has been initiated under the article for attempted murder and illegal trafficking of firearms. Who is Vladimir Alekseev

Vladimir Stepanovich Alekseev was born on April 24, 1961, in the village of Holodky, Khmelnytskyi region of Ukraine. He graduated from the Ryazan Higher Airborne Command School in 1984 and has served in various intelligence directorates.

Since 2011, he has been performing the duties of the first deputy head of the GRU. According to Ukrainian intelligence, Alekseev is responsible for intelligence operations and the preparation of missile strikes against Ukraine, as well as organizing the so-called "referendums" in temporarily occupied territories.

In recent years, his name has been mentioned in connection with cooperation with the Wagner Group, as well as participating in negotiations during the mutiny that occurred in June 2023 in Rostov-on-Don. Alekseev has also been involved in American investigations regarding interference in the US presidential elections in 2016.

The assassination attempt on Alekseev highlights the growing danger for high-ranking military officials in Russia, as he becomes the third general in Moscow to fall victim to violence in a short period.

Kremlin representative Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Vladimir Putin was informed about this incident, stating that the safety of military personnel must become a priority for the special services.
