Unexpected Statements by the American President Ahead of Meeting with Zelenskyy
US President Donald Trump announced optimistic expectations about the possibility of a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia. During an interview, he emphasized that he sees "good chances" for resolving the conflict, although he acknowledges this war as the most complex of all he has tried to settle.
Trump's Position
According to the US president, both sides seem interested in reaching an agreement, but have different approaches. "I think they want to do it now, and I think Russia wants to do it. But every time one wants to do it, the other doesn't want to," Trump noted.
Details of the Peace Plan
Ahead of the meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Trump emphasized that no peace plan would be implemented without his personal approval. The document developed by the Ukrainian side includes:
- Creation of a demilitarized zone
- Providing Ukraine with security guarantees from the USA
- Resolving issues concerning Donbas
- Settling the situation around the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant
Zelenskyy hopes for security guarantees longer than the proposed 15 years and expressed a desire for Trump to personally come to Ukraine and substantiate the conditions of the peace agreement.
Prospects for Negotiations
Despite existing differences, both sides demonstrate readiness for dialogue. Ukraine is committed to compromises without losing territories, while Russia continues to insist on full control over the Donetsk region.
