The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed concern over an attack on a vessel owned by a Turkish company in the Ukrainian port of Chornomorsk that occurred today. As a result of the incident, the foreign-flagged vessel known as "M/V CENK T" was damaged.
Statement from the Turkish Foreign Ministry
In its official address, the Turkish Foreign Ministry stated that this event "demonstrates the validity of our previously expressed concerns regarding the spread of the ongoing war in our region to the Black Sea." Global discussions on maritime security in this strategic waterway are currently taking place.
Consequences of the Attack
According to reports, no Turkish citizens were harmed during the attack, but the Turkish consulate in Odesa is closely monitoring the situation and providing assistance to Turkish citizens.
The Turkish side emphasized the importance of an immediate cessation of the war between Russia and Ukraine and stressed the need for an agreement to prevent the escalation of the conflict in the Black Sea.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan characterized these attacks as a "worrying escalation," raising concerns about maritime safety and the security of the port of Chornomorsk.
It should be noted that recently, representatives of the Turkish Foreign Ministry summoned representatives of the embassies of Ukraine and Russia to express concern over a series of attacks on vessels in the Black Sea.
