The National Police of Ukraine detained a 23-year-old Kyiv resident who attempted to blackmail the famous Ukrainian singer Olena Topolia (Alyosha), threatening to distribute her intimate videos.
According to official law enforcement information, the young man had compromising materials at his disposal and demanded money in order not to publish intimate videos.
Criminal Proceedings Details
The singer immediately contacted the police after receiving threats on January 10. Law enforcement officers promptly detained the offender.
Police investigators announced suspicion to the accused under Part 5 of Art. 27, Part 4 of Art. 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (extortion). The article's sanction provides for punishment of up to 12 years of imprisonment.
Currently, the issue of choosing a preventive measure is being resolved, and measures are ongoing to identify possible accomplices of the crime.
