Critical State of the Capital's Power Grid

First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal published an official assessment of Kyiv's electricity system state, calling the situation critical.

Main Problems of the Energy System

According to Shmyhal, Kyiv has one of the worst indicators of distributed generation introduction, which directly affects electricity supply stability. In 2024, only 225 MW of capacities were commissioned, and in 2025 - 762 MW.

Government Action Plan

The government plans to install 2.2-2.7 GW of generation by 2026 to enable regions to fully cover their own needs. Shmyhal emphasized the need to accelerate processes:

  • Simplifying the procedure for connecting backup equipment
  • Reducing the terms of technical conditions approval
  • Personal responsibility for delays

Threats to the Energy System

Russia continues systematic attacks on the Ukrainian energy system. In particular, Russian troops recently attacked Kyiv's heat and power plants TEC-5 and TEC-6, as a result of which half of Kyiv was left without heat.

Yasno's CEO Serhiy Kovalenko warned that improvement of the situation should not be expected in the near future.
