In 2026, Saint Basil the Great's Day will undergo significant changes due to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine's transition to the New Julian calendar. From now on, major Orthodox holidays, including Saint Basil's Day of Remembrance, will be celebrated 13 days earlier.

New Celebration Date

Traditionally, Saint Basil's Day fell on January 14, but from 2026, it will be celebrated on January 1. This is related to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine's decision to change the calendar style.

  • Saint Basil's Day of Remembrance
  • The Circumcision of the Lord
  • Beginning of the New Year

  • Sprinkle grain for prosperity
  • Prepare many dishes

It is important to remember that on this day, it is forbidden to: quarrel, swear, lend money, and take out garbage from the house.
