The United States Department of Justice has begun the publication of thousands of pages of documents in the case of Jeffrey Epstein—a well-known financier accused of pedophilia, who died in prison in 2019. These documents have become available thanks to a new transparency law passed by the U.S. Congress in November.
According to U.S. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, the Department plans to release hundreds of thousands of pages, with particular attention to the protection of victims' personal information.
The First Batch of Documents Generated Significant Interest
The release of the first 300,000 pages generated a lot of traffic on the DOJ website, causing many users to encounter queues in electronic lines.
Among the documents released by the U.S. Congress are photographs showing well-known people such as Bill Gates, Donald Trump, and Prince Andrew. However, none of the mentioned individuals acknowledges involvement in any wrongdoing.
Reaction of Politicians
President Donald Trump signed the transparency law, although his administration had previously resisted the publication demands. Additionally, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer accused the administration of releasing only part of the materials, which he says violates the law.
Democrats are also releasing documents from Epstein's personal archive, obtained independently from the DOJ. These include various influential individuals, but their presence in the photos is not evidence of any unlawful actions.
Case History
Jeffrey Epstein, who was embroiled in a sexual exploitation scandal, was arrested in 2019 on charges of trafficking minors for sexual exploitation. He was found dead in his cell, which sparked numerous conspiracy theories. His relationships with famous figures such as Donald Trump and Bill Clinton have drawn significant political interest.
The release of these documents may shed light on Epstein's connections with many high-ranking officials and businessmen.
