On the night of December 13, an air alert was announced in Ukraine, particularly in Kyiv, due to missile danger. Regional military administrations and the "Air Forces" reported the threat of a missile strike caused by Russian military forces raising the "MiG-31K" aircraft, a carrier of air-launched ballistic missiles known as "Dagger."
At 00:40, a report emerged about the ascent of the "MiG-31K" over Russian territory, which served as a signal to announce an alert in Kyiv region and other areas such as Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, Chernihiv, Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Poltava regions.
Escalation of tension and explosions in the regions
As a result, explosions were recorded in Poltava region and in central Ukraine amidst the declared alerts. According to the TСN channel, the alert spread across the country, and there were reports of shelling from the Black Sea area, where Russian military forces launched "Caliber" type cruise missiles.
According to information from the Kyiv City Military Administration, Ukrainian military officials warn civilians about the necessity of maintaining safety and following shelter protocols during aerial threats.
Response and operational actions
Ukrainian military and authorities call on the population to remain calm and stay in shelters until the threat is over. Police and emergency services are on standby to respond to emergencies that may arise from potential attacks.
It is worth noting that tactically, Russian military forces continue active shelling that began in October 2022, aiming to damage Ukrainian infrastructure amidst the escalation of the conflict.
