The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, during the fourth parliamentary summit of the "Crimea Platform" held in Stockholm, outlined key points for Ukraine in the discussion of a peaceful settlement with Russia.
He defined three main "red lines" that, according to Stefanchuk, should not be crossed by anyone, either physically, legally, or morally:
- Refusal to legally recognize the Russian occupation of Ukrainian territories.
- No restrictions for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
- No veto on Ukraine's right to choose its future alliances.
The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada also emphasized that the possibility of Ukraine joining the European Union and NATO should be part of the security guarantees in any peace plan. "It would also be fair to use Russian frozen assets as part of the 'price for aggression'," he noted.
In his speech, Stefanchuk stated that "nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine, and nothing about Europe without Europe" should be the principle for any peace process. He also added that Ukraine will never give up its language, faith, and national identity.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine also participated in this conference, pointing out the importance of coordinating with international partners, particularly the United States, in finding compromises that he believes "will strengthen, not weaken" Ukraine's position in negotiations.
In conclusion, Stefanchuk expressed confidence that in December, the European Council would make a fair decision on this matter.
