On the night of August 3, Russian forces launched a large-scale drone attack against Ukraine, deploying 181 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of various types. Ukraine's air defense forces successfully destroyed or neutralized 163 enemy drones.
The information was released by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the military, the attack began at 6:00 p.m. on August 2. Russia launched Shahed attack drones, including jet-powered variants, as well as Gerbera, Italmas, and Parodiya decoy drones.
The UAVs were launched from several locations in Russia, including the Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo, and Shatalovo areas, as well as from the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Hvardiiske in Crimea.
Ukraine's response involved fighter aircraft, surface-to-air missile units, electronic warfare systems, unmanned defense units, and mobile fire groups operating across the country.
As of 7:30 a.m., Ukrainian air defenses had shot down or electronically suppressed 163 enemy drones over northern, eastern, and southern regions of Ukraine.
The Air Force reported 14 direct drone strikes at 13 locations, while debris from intercepted UAVs fell in two additional areas.
Military officials noted that the aerial assault was still ongoing, with several Russian drones remaining in Ukrainian airspace.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine's air defense systems are now intercepting more than 90% of Russian attack drones, highlighting the growing effectiveness of the country's air defense capabilities.
