Philharmonic (former synagogue)

Zakarpattya Regional Philharmonic is one of the most prominent architectural structures in Uzhhorod. The building was constructed in 1904 as a city synagogue for the Jewish community. It is designed in the Neo-Moorish style, characterized by typical arches, decorative brickwork, and Eastern motifs.
The architectural project was developed by Hungarian architects Gyula Papp and Ferenc Szabolcs. The synagogue was one of the largest in the region and could accommodate about 900 worshippers. After World War II, the building was converted into a concert hall, and since then the Zakarpattya Regional Philharmonic has been operating here.
Today, it is a monument of architecture and an important cultural center of the city. It hosts classical music concerts, festivals, and other artistic events, while the building itself retains features of its historical architecture.
300-Year-Old Ash Tree
The 300-Year-Old Ash Tree of Masaryk is one of the oldest natural symbols of Uzhhorod. This enormous tree grows on the banks of the Uzh River and is considered one of the oldest ash trees in Ukraine. Its age is estimated at around 300 years, making it a true living witness of the city's history.
Currently, the 300-year-old ash tree is one of the natural landmarks of the city. It is located near the famous Linden Alley, making it frequently visible during strolls along the promenade.

The Botanical Garden of Uzhhorod National University is one of the greenest and most cozy corners of Uzhhorod. The garden was established in 1945 as a scientific base for the university, and today it has become a unique place featuring thousands of plants from various parts of the world.
On the territory of the garden, which is situated on several terraces, grow trees, shrubs, and flowers from the Carpathians, Caucasus, Mediterranean, Asia, and North America. In the greenhouses, you can find tropical and subtropical plants — palms, cacti, and other exotic species that create an atmosphere of a true green oasis.

Pottery Workshop Natura Ceramica
Natura Ceramica is a cozy pottery workshop in the center of Uzhhorod that produces unique handmade ceramic items. It is a small creative space that blends pottery traditions, modern design, and love for natural materials.
In the workshop, you can see author's dishes, decorative items, vases, and other ceramic pieces, each with its own character. All items are handmade, so they feature a natural texture, muted colors, and a unique aesthetic.

Zakarpattya Regional Art Museum named after Joseph Bokshai is one of the largest art centers in Uzhhorod.
The museum is located in an ancient building of the former zupanate from the 19th century and preserves a rich collection of paintings, graphics, sculptures, and decorative and applied arts.
A special place in the exhibition is occupied by works of artists from the Transcarpathian School of Painting, which depict the nature, culture, and life of the region.

The Zoological Museum of Uzhhorod National University is one of the oldest natural history museums in Transcarpathia. Its collections include thousands of exhibits: stuffed animals, birds, fish, and insects from different parts of the world.

The Oldest Cemetery in the City "Kalvaria"

Kalvaria is the oldest cemetery in Uzhhorod and a significant historical monument of the city. It is located on a hill near the center and has been the burial site for many generations of Uzhhorod residents since the end of the 18th century. The name "Kalvaria" derives from the Latin word Calvaria, which means Golgotha.
Old paths of the cemetery preserve numerous tombstones, chapels, and monuments from various eras. Here are buried well-known figures of culture, science, and public life in Transcarpathia, making Kalvaria often referred to as the historical necropolis of the city. The stone monuments and ancient crosses create a special atmosphere of peace and remembrance.
Horyansky Rotunda

Horyansky Rotunda is one of the oldest architectural monuments of Uzhhorod and a true gem of medieval culture in Transcarpathia. The temple is located in the Horyany microdistrict and is considered the oldest stone structure in the city. Its history dates back approximately to the 10th-13th centuries, making the rotunda one of the oldest Christian shrines in Ukraine.
The unusual architecture of the temple attracts attention with its shape: the central part of the building has a round base with massive stone walls. In the 14th century, a Gothic part of the temple was added to the ancient rotunda so that the building contains elements from different historical eras and styles.
Of special value are the unique medieval frescoes from the 13th-14th centuries that adorn the interior walls of the temple. These paintings are considered some of the oldest examples of monumental painting in Transcarpathia.
Cathedral of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross + Park
The Cathedral of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is one of the most significant holy places in Uzhhorod. The majestic temple with two towers rises above the old part of the city and is an important architectural landmark. Its history begins in the 17th century when a Jesuit monastery complex was built here.
The architecture of the cathedral combines baroque solemnity and restrained elegance. Inside, the temple is decorated with paintings, ancient icons, and an exquisite iconostasis, while the crypt beneath the cathedral holds the remains of bishops from the Mukachevo Greek-Catholic diocese.
Next to the cathedral is the cozy Alpine Garden — a small park with rare plants, terraces, and picturesque views of the city. Together with the temple, it creates one of the most beautiful historical corners of Uzhhorod, where architecture, nature, and the unique atmosphere of the old town converge.
Galagiv Quarter (Czech Quarter)
The Galagiv Quarter is one of the most interesting historical areas of Uzhhorod, formed in the first half of the 20th century. It was actively developed during the period when Transcarpathia was part of Czechoslovakia.
The quarter got its name from the former district of Galagiv, which was planned as the government center of the city. Here, administrative buildings, residential houses, and public structures were erected in functionalism, modernism, and constructivism styles.
