Uzhhorod Castle

Uzhhorod Castle is one of the oldest fortresses in Transcarpathia, located on a volcanic hill above the Uzh River in the very center of the city. Its history dates back to the IX century when a wooden fortification was built here. Over time, the fortress was transformed into a powerful stone castle that protected the city and controlled important trade routes over the centuries.

The Transcarpathian Museum of Folk Architecture and Life is one of the most interesting open-air museums in Uzhhorod, located next to the Uzhhorod Castle. This place resembles a real Carpathian village, where old wooden houses, farm buildings, and narrow streets are set among green hills, recreating the atmosphere of life in Transcarpathia several centuries ago.

The museum features authentic houses from different districts of the region – residential cottages, a blacksmith shop, an inn, a school, and farm buildings. The interiors of each house are recreated with traditional furniture, dishes, and household items.

A particular beauty is brought to the museum by the ancient wooden church of the 18th century which was transported from a Carpathian village.

One of the most interesting tourist activities in Uzhhorod is the search for tiny bronze mini-sculptures that are discreetly hidden along the riverbanks, bridges, and streets of the old town. These tiny sculptures, created by Uzhhorod sculptor Mykhailo Kolodko, have become a true symbol of the city and have turned an ordinary walk into an exciting quest.

The first sculptures appeared on the railing of the bridge over the Uzh, and over time their number increased – currently, there are several dozen miniatures in the city. Among the most famous are Brave Soldier Švejk, Andy Warhol, Harry Houdini, Ferenc Liszt, and many other characters.

St. George's Cathedral

St. George's Cathedral is one of the most significant historical landmarks of Uzhhorod, located in the heart of the old town. The majestic baroque building with tall towers represents an important architectural monument and the spiritual center of the Roman Catholic community of Transcarpathia.

The church was built in the 18th century on the site of an older shrine and is dedicated to St. George the Dragon Slayer. Korzo Street, Mustard Seed Alley
