Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is considering dismissing the head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Vasyl Maluk from his position, according to well-informed sources in government circles.

According to "Ukrainska Pravda" and "RBC-Ukraine", the president intends to transfer Maluk to another government position. In particular, options for appointing him as the head of Foreign Intelligence Service or secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine are being considered.

Potential Change Reasons

Sources point to several possible reasons for the personnel reshuffle. Previously, the former head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, allegedly wanted to achieve Maluk's resignation because, in Yermak's version, he "missed" the Midas operation.

Position of People's Deputies

People's Deputy Roman Kostenko, who is the secretary of the Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, opposes Maluk's dismissal. "In my opinion, we should not rush with such a decision," Kostenko stated.

SBU Achievements Under Maluk's Leadership

During Vasyl Maluk's leadership, the SBU conducted a number of high-profile special operations, including:

  • Attacks on the Crimean Bridge
  • Destruction of Russian ships with Sea Baby maritime drones
  • Operation "Cobweb"
  • Elimination of high-ranking Russian officers

The final decision on dismissing the SBU head belongs to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine upon the president's submission.
