Important Church Events of the Month
In January 2026, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will celebrate a number of important religious holidays, among which the Baptism of the Lord and several memorable days of saints hold a special place.
The Most Important Holidays of the Month
- January 1: The Circumcision of the Lord and Saint Basil's Day
- January 5: Baptismal Christmas Eve (Eve of Theophany)
- January 6: Baptism of the Lord (Epiphany)
- January 30: Feast of the Three Saints or Synaxis of the Three Hierarchs
Traditions and Holiday Features
On January 6, Ukrainians traditionally celebrate Epiphany - one of the oldest and most solemn Christian holidays. The main rite of the day is the blessing of water, which is considered healing and protective.
An interesting tradition is also the sowing of grain on January 1, when boys go from house to house, wishing the owners health and prosperity.
Honoring Saints
Throughout the month, the church will honor many saints, including: • January 11 - Venerable Theodosius the Great • January 12 - Saint Martyr Tatiana • January 14 - Saint Equal-to-Apostles Nina • January 25 - Saint Gregory the Theologian
