The Finale of the Cult Series Will Open New Franchise Horizons
"Netflix" has presented a detailed plan for continuing the popular series "Stranger Things" after the official conclusion of the main storyline. Despite the end of the fifth season, the streaming platform plans to expand the universe through two ambitious projects.
Animated Spin-off
The first project is an animated series "Stranger Things: Tales from '85", which will be released in 2026. It will be set between the second and third seasons of the original show and will retain the main cast of characters: Eleven, Mike, Lucas, Dustin, Will, Max, and Hopper. The new series will have a slightly modified voice cast.
Unexpected Live-action Project
The second project is a completely new live-action series that will differ radically from the original story. The Duffer creators confirmed that it will not contain familiar characters, will not be set in Hawkins, and will not take place in the 1980s.
Interestingly, the finale of the fifth season will contain a subtle detail that hints at the future spin-off. The series creators assure that it will be a nuanced hint for the most attentive fans.
Theatrical Screening of the Finale
Additionally, the series will have an unexpected theatrical premiere. Over 1.1 million viewers have reserved seats in more than 620 theaters to watch the final episode on December 31, 2025, and January 1, 2026.
