On the night of December 22, near Korosten, Zhytomyr region, a serious railway accident occurred. According to "Ukrzaliznytsia," a freight train and a passenger train locomotive derailed, causing significant delays for several trains.

As reported by "Ukrzaliznytsia," the accident was likely caused by a hit from a Russian drone of the "Shahed" type. Similar incidents have been recorded near the Russian border, particularly in the Chernihiv region, but this is the first attack deep in the rear.

Due to the incident, many passenger trains were rerouted through Fastiv, which increased the travel time. Train delays range from two to three hours. At the time of the accident, suburban trains in the Korosten direction were limited in movement to the Chopovychi station, but a transfer to a suburban train was organized at the Shepetivka station.

As a result of the accident, the freight train's engineer and his assistant were injured and hospitalized. The Chairman of the Board of "Ukrzaliznytsia," Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, reported that the injured are receiving necessary medical assistance, and the assistant engineer is planned to be transferred to Kyiv for further treatment.

Restorative work has already begun, but it is complicated by the increased activity of the enemy in the region. "Ukrzaliznytsia" urges passengers to closely monitor schedule updates and route changes.

Investigations into all circumstances of the incident are ongoing. "Ukrzaliznytsia" continues to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure safety on its routes.
