Residents of Kryvyi Rih may be disappointed by the New Year's weather — instead of traditional snow on January 1st, the city is expected to have rain with wet snow and above-zero temperatures. This is indicated by weather forecasts for the first days of 2025.

What to Expect on New Year's Night

According to the Meteofor meteorological service, on January 1st the temperature in Kryvyi Rih will range from -1 to -4 degrees. At the same time, forecasters predict precipitation in the form of wet snow with rain, which makes snow cover formation impossible.

Experts from the Meteo.ua service differ somewhat in their forecasts — according to their data, thermometers will show from +3 to +5 degrees. However, they also confirm the probability of mixed precipitation.

The Trend of Mild Winters in Ukraine

Vera Balabukh, head of the Applied Meteorology and Climatology Department at the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Institute, explains that this winter in Ukraine will likely be warmer than usual.

According to her, the average seasonal air temperature is expected to be 1-2 degrees above the climatic norm. The probability of such a scenario is 70-80%.

"Against the backdrop of global warming, winter in our country has become almost 1.5 degrees warmer compared to the 60s-80s of the last century, when very severe frosts were observed. We haven't seen minus 35-40 degrees for a long time," Balabukh noted.

January Forecast

Natalia Ptukha, press secretary of Ukrhydrometcenter, reported that the beginning of January will most likely be characteristic of winter conditions, but stable snow cover is not expected.

"We already see snow episodically. Sharp fluctuations in temperature indicators lead to uneven distribution of snow cover across Ukraine's territory and make it localized," she explained.

Temperature indicators will remain within the norm; forecasters do not predict record cold spells.
