During the night of January 20, 2026, Russia launched a massive rocket and drone strike on Kyiv and several other Ukrainian cities, resulting in a large-scale energy crisis in the city.
Attack Details
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russians attacked the capital with ballistic missiles and shaheds, as well as cruise missiles from Tu-95MS bombers. The left bank of Kyiv was the most affected.
Consequences of the Shelling
Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko reported that as a result of the attack:
- 5,635 high-rise buildings were left without heat
- Water supply disappeared in almost the entire Left Bank area of the city
- There are electricity disruptions
- One 59-year-old woman was injured
Scale of the Attack
Russia attacked energy facilities in Kyiv, Dnipro, Chornomorsk, Rivne, and other Ukrainian cities. The strikes mainly targeted transformer substations, thermal power plants, and critical infrastructure.
Utility workers and energy specialists are currently working to restore heat, water, and electricity supply.
