The cult Netflix show "Stranger Things" has finally returned after a long break. Today marks the start of the fifth and final season, and even the first two episodes impress viewers with unexpected plotlines that connect the present with the first season. Reminiscent of the story of Will Byers' disappearance, new events surround his younger sister Holly Wheeler (played by Nell Fischer), who now plays a key role in the development of the plot.
Demogorgons and New Threats
In the second episode, which was previously announced simply as "Disappearance...", it turns out that its true title is "The Disappearance of Holly Wheeler." This episode features the appearance of a demogorgon, which attacks the town of Hawkins. Four years after the events of the fourth season, a military quarantine zone is imposed on the town, and the main character of the show, Doctor Kay (Linda Hamilton), continues to search for Alvan (Millie Bobby Brown). However, the greatest threat still lurks in the form of Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower), who is planning his actions from beyond the Upside Down.
Origins Rooted in "A Wrinkle in Time"
This season, "Stranger Things" introduces a new cultural aspect by linking the events of the show to the classic science fiction novel by Madeleine L'Engle, "A Wrinkle in Time," where the main characters travel through time and space in search of their loved ones. The children from "Stranger Things" return to their fandom of fantastic stories, trying to understand the paranormal events around them.
This new dynamic in the perception of reality reflects serious changes in the storyline. For instance, Holly's new "friend," Mr. Wattsit, hints at a reality with more shadows than it seems, and as we find out, he is none other than Vecna himself in human form.
The confrontation between Holly and Max (Sadie Sink) deepens the intrigue in the upcoming episodes, which promise even more complicated situations, as both heroines try to escape from the trap set by Vecna.
The first four episodes of the fifth season are already streaming, while the second part, which includes episodes 5-7, will be released on December 25, and the finale on December 31. Whether Holly can overcome new challenges and find her true potential will be revealed in the upcoming episodes.
