As a result of the Russian attack on the thermal power plant in the suburb of Kharkiv, one person was killed and 13 others were injured. The city is partially without power, heat supply and public transport operations are disrupted.
"The enemy launched a series of targeted strikes on the thermal power plant in the nearest suburb of Kharkiv. This led to a significant voltage drop in the city, which directly affected heat supply and urban transport operations," reported Mayor Igor Terekhov.
Consequences of the attack
According to the head of Kharkiv Regional Administration Oleg Sinegubov, one person was killed as a result of missile strikes on Kharkiv's suburb. Initially, 11 injured were reported, later their number increased to 13 people. All victims have been hospitalized and are receiving qualified medical care.
Specialized services are currently conducting surveys and determining the real scale of destruction. Where technically possible, the energy system is being switched to "energy island" mode to reduce consequences for city residents.
Transport and power supply problems
Due to energy system damage, electric transport operations are temporarily complicated in the areas of Rohan, KhTZ, New Bavaria and Cold Mountain. Metro operations have already been restored.
Emergency power outage schedules have been introduced in the region by "Kharkivoblenergo". According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, December 24 in Kharkiv has sub-zero temperatures: up to six degrees below zero during the day, up to -10 degrees at night.
Large-scale attack on Ukraine's energy system
The attack on Kharkiv's thermal power plant was part of a large-scale Russian strike on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. On the night of December 24, the enemy attacked energy facilities, resulting in new power outages in the morning in Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions.
As a result of the Russian attack on the night of December 23, consumers in three regions of Ukraine were almost completely without power: Rivne, Ternopil and Khmelnytskyi.
