On Friday, January 16, strict hourly electricity disconnection schedules will be in effect across all regions of Ukraine. This was announced by DTEK and Ukrenergo companies.
Reasons for Implementing Restrictions
The main reason for introducing these schedules is the consequences of massive Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities. In particular, combined heat and power plants in Kyiv were damaged, with CHP-5 completely stopped and CHP-6 partially halted.
Power Outage Schedules by Regions
According to DTEK, electricity disconnection schedules vary by region:
- Kyiv: three hours with electricity and ten hours without power
- Dnipropetrovsk region: up to 10.5 hours without electricity, with 2-3 disconnections per day
- Kyiv region: 2-3 disconnections throughout the day
Energy Sector Recommendations
Ukrenergo calls on the population to consume electricity sparingly when it is available. Current information about schedules and disconnection times can be found on the official pages of regional energy companies on social networks.
Energy expert Hennadii Riabtsev reported that CHP-5 and CHP-6 are unlikely to operate at full capacity until the end of the current heating season.
