Dnipropetrovsk Oblast is much more than industrial giants and factories. The region hides unique natural anomalies, mystical archaeological sites, and craft farms that create a full-fledged tourist alternative to conventional routes.

“Dnipro Maldives”

Where: the city of Vilnohirs'k

“Dnipro Maldives” has become a real sensation on social media due to its atypical appearance for Ukraine. In fact, it is a technogenic site – a quarry of the Vilnohirs'k Mining and Metallurgical Plant.

The purified quartz sand gives the coastline a dazzling white color, while the water takes on a bright turquoise hue.

Despite its industrial origins, this place has become a popular leisure area. The sand here is so fine and clean that it doesn't heat up even during the peak of summer, and the transparency of the water allows viewing the bottom at great depths.

Balka Sazhiivka

Balka Sazhiivka is a true natural phenomenon located on the edge of the city and wild steppe. Due to its specific relief and steep slopes, it is often compared to the landscapes of New Zealand.

The saturated greenery of the hills combined with the blue of the Dnipro creates a sense of a distant foreign country, making this area a favorite spot for photographers.

This place is ideal for hiking and tranquil nature watching. Thanks to the complex terrain, a rich plant world has been preserved here.

Sazhiivka is a striking example of how nature can create incredible forms, competing in beauty with many of the best parks in the world.

This is a prime example of modern agritourism, where craft production combines with an ecological mission. The farm specializes in making signature cheeses using European recipes. All processes are open to visitors: from herding cattle to tastings in cozy rooms.

Besides gastronomy, “Zelenyi Hai” is also known as a rehabilitation center for animals. Horses, deer, mules, and domestic birds live here, many of which have been rescued from combat zones.

The location offers comprehensive recreation: the opportunity to taste authentic local products and engage with the culture of ethical attitudes towards nature.

Architect Hliapotyra's Dacha

Where: the village of Dniprovs'ke

On the shore of the Kam'yans'ke Reservoir stands a building that resembles the set of a dark fantasy rather than a private house. This creation of architect Leonid Hliapotyra took him decades to complete. The building impresses with its eclecticism: Gothic towers coexist with whimsical mosaics of broken glass, ceramics, and wild stone.

Each detail of the facade is a separate work of art, embedding symbols and authorial ideas. Although it is private territory, the castle has become an iconic place for travelers seeking “atypical” architecture.

This is a symbol of how one person can change the landscape of an entire village by creating a unique monument.

Snail Park Farm

Where: the village of Surs'ko-Mykhaylivka, Polova Street, 55

!!!Season starts on May 1

This is the most exotic farm in the region, where snails of the Helix Aspersa Muller species are grown. It is a gastronomic hub that introduces visitors to all stages of “snail racing” – from egg incubation to feeding patterns.

The owners have transformed the farm into an educational space that debunks myths about the complexity of preparing this delicacy.

The main highlight is the tasting room, where snails are served using classic French recipes with local herbs and sauces.

Nearby, visitors can also explore historical Cossack landmarks, adding contrast to their trip.

Bergmans' Estate

Where: the town of Solone

This estate is a living testament to the era of German Mennonite colonists who played a significant role in the region's development in the 19th century. The Bergman Barons' House was built in 1895 using characteristic red bricks and elements of neo-Gothic architecture. The building has preserved its majestic structure: from massive basements to the elegant lines of window openings.

At one time, the Bergmans were the drivers of progress in Solone: they opened schools, hospitals, and introduced advanced technologies in the agribusiness sector.

Today, the estate houses a local history museum, where archived photographs and items belonging to the owners are preserved. It is a key point for those exploring the multinational history of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

Mavryns'kyi Maidan

Where: the village of Mezhyrich

Mavryns'kyi Maidan is one of the most mysterious structures in Ukraine, often referred to as the "steppe Stonehenge." Scientists continue to debate its age: according to some versions, it is over 5,000 years old, while others claim it is a fortification from the Cossack times.

The location has unique physical properties: there is perfect acoustics in the central basin, and after rains, water never collects there.

Holy Trinity Cathedral

Where: the city of Samari

This cathedral is a world-class masterpiece listed by UNESCO. Built in 1778 by folk master Yakym Pohrebnyak at the request of Zaporozhian Cossacks, it is the tallest wooden structure in Ukraine.

The uniqueness lies in the fact that the 35-meter structure with nine domes was erected without a single iron nail.

The architecture of the cathedral symbolizes unity and harmony, and its history inspired Oles Honchar to write the novel of the same name.

Kodats'ka Fortress

Kodats'ka Fortress is the remains of what was once an impregnable Polish stronghold, built in 1635 based on the project of the renowned engineer Guillaume de Beauplan. It is located on a steep rocky bank of the Dnipro. Today, only massive earthen ramparts remain from the fortifications, as most of the fortress was destroyed during granite quarrying in the Soviet era.

Despite the ruin, the location remains one of the best viewpoints in the region. The hills of the fortress offer a magnificent panorama of the flooded rocky gorge formed at the quarry site and the river rapids.

Cossack Cemetery

Where: the village of Stari Kodaky

The Old Cossack Necropolis is located right next to the earthen ramparts of the fortress and is an important cultural monument of the region. On the territory of the cemetery, one can find archaic stone crosses, the oldest of which date back to the 18th century.

Each cross has an individual shape and unique carvings characteristic of the burial traditions of Zaporozhian Cossacks and the first settlers of Stari Kodaky.

The atmosphere of the cemetery is filled with tranquility and somber grandeur. The porosity of the old sandstone and the succinct inscriptions on the stone allow one to literally touch the past.

Thus, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast emerges as an unexpected tourist discovery, where the harsh industrial grandeur organically intertwines with the authenticity of Cossack history and modern eco-initiatives.
