In the evening of February 9, businessman and founder of the investment group "Concorde Capital," Ihor Mazepa, was involved in a traffic accident on the Zhytomyr highway. According to police information, the accident occurred around 7:30 PM on the Kyiv–Chop road within the village of Kam'yany Maydan in the Zviahel district of Zhytomyr region.
At the time of the accident, Mazepa was driving a Mercedes-Benz, heading towards Zhytomyr. In a poorly lit area of the road, he struck a 60-year-old pedestrian who was crossing the roadway. As a result of the collision, the pedestrian died on the way to the hospital.
The police confirmed that the driver of the vehicle, Ihor Mazepa, was sober during the preliminary examination. In connection with this situation, investigators have opened a criminal proceeding under the article "violation of traffic safety rules or operation of vehicles by persons who drive vehicles."
Ihor Mazepa reacted to the incident by writing on Facebook that he was involved in an accident with a third party. He emphasized that he was not tired and had not consumed any prohibited substances for drivers, as confirmed by a medical examination at the scene. "I am cooperating with the investigation. I will provide all details a bit later," the businessman said.
Criminal investigations into fatal traffic accidents have serious consequences, and as a result of the investigation, Mazepa may face a penalty of up to 8 years in prison.
