Details: The summit, dedicated to transatlantic ties, concluded after midnight and approved the oral conclusions.
"The European Union and the United States have always been partners and allies. We believe that relations between allies should be based on goodwill and respect," the document available to "European Truth" states.
The document also emphasizes that Europe and the USA have common interests in Arctic security, particularly through cooperation within NATO.
Verbatim from the document: "In this context, I want to emphasize: The Kingdom of Denmark and Greenland receive full support from the European Union. Only Denmark and Greenland can make decisions regarding these territories."
Details: The conclusions note that "the announcement of no new tariffs from the USA towards Europe is a positive step."
"The introduction of new tariffs would contradict the trade agreement between the EU and the USA. Now we must focus our efforts on implementing this agreement," the document emphasizes.
Moreover, the EU will continue to "defend its interests and protect its member states, citizens, and companies from any forms of pressure – for this, we have all the necessary powers and tools that will be applied if needed."
Verbatim from the Euro Council conclusions: "We are ready to continue to constructively engage with the United States on all matters of mutual interest, including creating conditions for a fair and lasting peace in Ukraine."
Details: EU leaders also expressed "serious doubts about some aspects of the Peace Council's statute, particularly regarding its mandate, governance, and compliance with the UN Charter."
"We are ready to cooperate with the USA on implementing a comprehensive Peace Plan for Gaza, provided that the Peace Council fulfills its role as a transitional administration in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2803," they noted.
António Costa reported that the next extraordinary meeting of EU leaders will take place on February 12 in Brussels, where a strategic discussion on strengthening the Single Market in the new geo-economic context is planned.
Reminder: During the EU leaders' summit on December 22, French President Emmanuel Macron expressed a desire for Europe to be respected, otherwise the EU would be forced to take decisive action.
Also, on January 21, US President Donald Trump announced the establishment of a foundation for a future agreement regarding Greenland, which will allow avoiding the imposition of tariffs against European countries.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen defined the "red lines" of such an agreement with the USA: the status of a sovereign state is not up for discussion.
