After several years of abnormally warm winters, Ukrainians are finally expecting real winter weather. According to weather forecasts, starting from December 24th in Kryvyi Rih and throughout Ukraine, significant cooling will begin with frosts down to -12°C.

Turning point — December 24th

Weather forecaster Igor Kibalchich reports that the Arctic air mass will begin its advance on December 24th, starting from the northern regions. The temperature regime will drop by 6-8 degrees immediately.

The coldest days will be:

  • December 25th and 26th (Christmas period)
  • December 29th-31st (New Year's Eve)

At night, temperatures will drop to a noticeable -5…-12 degrees, and during the day thermometer readings will also stay below zero.

Conflicting forecasts for Kryvyi Rih

Regarding Kryvyi Rih specifically, there are different forecasts. According to some weather forecasters, on January 1st the city may cool slightly to -1…-4 degrees with light snow and rain. Other specialists forecast temperatures at +3…+5 degrees with mixed precipitation.

Will there be snow under the Christmas tree?

The precipitation situation varies by region:

West, Center and Southwest: Atmospheric fronts will pass here, which may cover the ground with snow just before the cooling.

Left Bank: This part of the country will be under the influence of high pressure, so there is a risk that frosts will hit bare ground.

On Christmas itself, December 25th, no precipitation is expected, but it will be frosty: at night -4°…-10° (colder in some places on the Left Bank), and during the day 0°…-6°.

Positive aspect — sunny weather

The influence of the frosty anticyclone will disperse clouds, so gloomy days will alternate with clear and sunny ones. This will be a pleasant addition to real winter weather.

Hope for a "white" New Year remains for all regions. In the last days of December, a series of cyclones from northern Europe may still bring precipitation to a large part of Ukraine's territory.
