Energy company DTEK published scheduled power outage schedules for December 26 for consumers in Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions. The decision was made due to restrictions applied across Ukraine following another Russian attack on energy infrastructure.
As reported in the company's Telegram channel, the outage schedules will be in effect throughout December 26. Representatives of the state company "Ukrenergo" warned that electricity restrictions will affect both household and industrial consumers in most regions of the country.
Reasons for introducing restrictions
On the night of December 24-25, on the eve of Christmas, Russia carried out a massive attack on Ukrainian energy facilities. As a result of the shelling, consumers in five regions were left without power: Chernihiv, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv and Odesa.
A particularly difficult situation developed in Sumy and Poltava regions, where emergency shutdowns were introduced for five consumer queues in each region by order of "Ukrenergo".
Positive changes in some regions
At the same time, on the evening of December 25, regional energy companies reported the cancellation of outage schedules until the end of the day in five regions: Lviv, Volyn, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk and Ternopil.
The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine noted that emergency restoration work continues around the clock. Power engineers are working on faster restoration of stable electricity supply in all regions of the country.
Impact on industry
As a result of the attack, the "Zaporizhstal" metallurgical plant, which is part of the "Metinvest" group, temporarily stopped operations. However, thanks to prompt actions by personnel and the use of backup power sources, the enterprise resumed production in the evening of the same day.
According to Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration representative Oleksandr Kovalenko, this was only the second emergency shutdown of the plant since World War II.
