In connection with the recent electricity outage schedules in Ukraine, the Ministry of Energy explained why Lviv has more light than Kyiv. The key reason lies in the physical characteristics of the energy system, as well as serious damage to generating capacities in the eastern part of the country.
“The main capacities for electricity production are currently concentrated mainly in the west of Ukraine, where nuclear power plants are located. This region has the ability to produce more than it consumes,” said Deputy Minister of Energy Roman Andarak.
Problems in the Energy Infrastructure
In the east, south, and center of Ukraine, there is a significant deficit of electricity due to numerous shelling and damage to infrastructure. The Ministry indicated that high-voltage lines and energy "bridges" connecting different regions are subjected to targeted attacks by the enemy.
“As a result of such shelling, electricity actually remains in those regions where it is produced or imported,” the department explained.
Current Situation in Kyiv
According to Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, today in Kyiv, electricity outage schedules will be in effect, but they will be less strict than in previous days. In particular, schedules are planned in the capital, under which electricity will be cut off according to specific queues.
- 1.1 queue: from 03:00 to 10:00, from 14:00 to 17:00;
- 1.2 queue: from 03:00 to 06:30, from 13:30 to 17:00;
- 2.1 queue: from 03:00 to 06:30, from 13:30 to 19:00;
- 2.2 queue: from 03:00 to 06:30, from 13:30 to 20:30;
- 3.1 queue: from 06:30 to 10:00, from 17:00 to 20:30;
- 3.2 queue: from 00:00 to 03:00, from 06:30 to 10:00, from 17:00 to 21:00;
- 4.1 queue: from 06:30 to 13:30, from 17:00 to 20:30;
- 4.2 queue: from 06:30 to 10:00, from 17:00 to 20:30;
- 5.1 queue: from 00:00 to 03:00, from 10:00 to 17:00, from 20:30 to 24:00;
- 5.2 queue: from 00:00 to 03:00, from 10:00 to 17:00, from 20:30 to 24:00;
- 6.1 queue: from 00:00 to 06:30, from 10:00 to 13:30, from 20:30 to 24:00;
- 6.2 queue: from 00:00 to 03:00, from 10:00 to 13:30, from 20:30 to 24:00.
The Ministry of Energy continues to work on reducing the outage schedules; however, this can be achieved by reducing the number of critical infrastructure facilities receiving electricity. According to sources, in a larger number of regions, it will not be possible to avoid restrictions of up to 12 hours per day this week.
